Goblin — Clash of Clans
Troops
Updated: 18 September 2026 · By the Goblins Farm team
The Goblin ignores nearest-target logic entirely and sprints for the nearest resource building, dealing bonus damage when it gets there. On an inactive base with full collectors that is devastating. On a defended base it is a fast, expensive way to lose troops.
What it does
Goblins have a preferred target: resource buildings, meaning mines, collectors, drills and storages, plus the Town Hall. They will run past a cannon that is shooting them to reach a gold mine, and they deal bonus damage to those buildings once they arrive.
They are also very fast, which is what makes them useful and dangerous in equal measure. A Goblin reaches the loot before the defences have finished turning, and it also reaches the core before you wanted it to.
How to use it
Goblins are a precision farming tool, not a general troop. Being free to train, a wave of them is worth spending on any base showing collectors on the perimeter.
- On inactive bases, drop them along the side with the most exposed collectors. They will strip the perimeter in seconds.
- Never lead with them into a defended base. Once the outer resource buildings are gone, the remaining ones are storages in the core, and your Goblins will run straight into every defence you own to reach them.
- Pair with a tank if you must go deeper: Giants pull defensive fire while the Goblins do the actual work.
Their bonus damage against resource buildings makes them the fastest way to strip exposed loot in the game, which is exactly the situation described in loot mechanics. They used to be described as the best loot per elixir spent; since troops became free to train, the comparison is simply loot per second.
How to beat it
Do not leave resource buildings on the perimeter. A base that keeps collectors inside walled compartments forces Goblins to path through defences, at which point their fragility ends the attack. Splash damage anywhere near the collector ring finishes the job.

Frequently asked
Why do my Goblins run into the middle of the base?
Because they target resource buildings specifically, and once the outer collectors are destroyed the nearest remaining resource buildings are the storages in the core. They will run past every defence to reach them, which is why Goblins are best used on bases with plenty of exposed collectors.
Do Goblins do extra damage to storages?
Yes. Goblins deal bonus damage to resource buildings, including collectors, mines, drills and storages, which is what makes them the most loot-efficient troop in the game when the loot is reachable.
