The Wizard is the damage dealer that makes Giant-based armies actually destroy things. Ranged, splash, and hits hard enough to clear buildings quickly, with hitpoints that mean he must never be the first thing a defence sees.

What it does

Wizards attack at range and deal splash damage, which means a line of them clears clustered buildings extremely quickly. They have no preferred target, so they hit whatever is nearest, and they die fast if anything reaches them.

Their splash is what makes them different from Archers: against a compartment full of buildings, a small number of Wizards outperforms a much larger number of Archers.

How to use it

Behind the tank, always, and spread.

How to beat it

Anything that reaches them. Wizards are ranged but not fast, so defending Clan Castle troops and heroes that get among them end the push immediately. Splash defences work too, particularly against players who deploy Wizards in a tight group, which most do.

Frequently asked

Are Wizards better than Archers?

For destroying clustered buildings, yes, because their splash damage hits several at once. For cheap collector farming, no, because they cost four housing space each and Archers strip perimeter buildings for a fraction of the price.

Why do my Wizards die immediately?

Usually because they were deployed too early or too close together. Wizards need a tank to absorb defensive fire first and must be spread along a line, since a single splash shell can remove an entire clumped group.
