The Dragon is the answer to the question every mid-game player asks: what army actually works without a lot of skill? It flies, it splashes, it has a lot of hitpoints, and it ignores every wall you will ever meet. Its weakness is exactly one thing.

What it does

Dragons are air units with high hitpoints and splash damage, with no preferred target. They fly straight toward the nearest building and destroy it and its neighbours. Because they fly, the entire discipline of walls, compartments and pathing simply does not apply to them.

That is why dragon attacks are recommended so often to players who are struggling: they remove the hardest part of attacking, which is controlling where a ground army goes.

How to use it

Deceptively simple, with two decisions that matter.

The most common failure is deploying into the strongest anti-air side because it looked closer to the Town Hall.

How to beat it

Spread, high-level Air Defences, plus air-targeting splash. A base with three Air Defences clustered on one side is a free three star for a dragon army; the same three spread across three sides is a serious problem. This is the single most important defensive lesson at mid Town Halls, and it is covered in defence mechanics.

Frequently asked

Why are dragon attacks so popular?

Because they remove the hardest part of attacking. Air troops ignore walls and pathing entirely, so a dragon army needs only one good decision, which side has the weakest anti-air, rather than the funnelling and timing a ground army demands.

What counters Dragons?

Air Defences, spread across multiple sides of the base rather than clustered, plus any air-targeting splash defence. Dragons travel in a group, so splash damage that reaches air units is disproportionately effective against them.
