Troops

Elixir troop

Updated: 18 September 2026 · By the Goblins Farm team

The Giant walks past everything to reach the nearest defence, absorbs an enormous amount of fire on the way, and hits slowly once it arrives. It is the game's first and most important lesson in the idea that some troops exist to be shot at.

What it does

Giants prefer defences, so they ignore collectors, huts and storages and march toward cannons, towers and mortars. They have high hitpoints and low damage output, which makes them poor at killing things and excellent at not dying while other troops kill things.

The corollary from troop targeting applies with full force: once every defence is destroyed, Giants revert to nearest-target behaviour and wander toward whatever is closest, which at that point is usually a hut in a corner.

How to use it

Giants are never the whole army. They are the front half of one.

  1. Send Giants first.Drop a spread line at the side you intend to attack, several seconds before anything else.
  2. Let the defences engage them.Wait for the defences to commit their fire.
  3. Drop the damage behind.Archers, Wizards or whatever your damage dealer is, behind the Giants and out of splash range.
  4. Wall Breakers when the Giants stall. The moment they bunch at a wall, that is the compartment you need opened.

Deploy them spread out. Giants stacked together die to splash as reliably as anything else, they just take longer about it.

How to beat it

Giants are slow and predictable, so the counters are structural. Splash damage placed where Giants will cluster, walls arranged so they path the long way round, and traps on the routes your compartments create. Because Giants only target defences, a base that keeps its defences deep forces them to walk a long, exposed path to reach anything at all.

Frequently asked

Do Giants target defences only?

They prefer defences and will walk past every other building to reach one. Once all defences are destroyed they revert to normal nearest-target behaviour and start attacking whatever building is closest, which is a common cause of attacks stalling at 99 per cent.

How many Giants should I use?

Enough to absorb the fire of the defences covering your entry point, which usually means a spread line rather than a precise count. What matters more is deploying them several seconds ahead of your damage troops and spreading them so splash damage cannot hit the whole group.
