Baby Dragon — Clash of Clans
Troops
Updated: 18 September 2026 · By the Goblins Farm team
The Baby Dragon has one genuinely unusual property: it gets angry when it is alone. Kept away from other air units it becomes substantially stronger, which turns it from a small dragon into one of the best funnelling tools in the game.
What it does
The Baby Dragon is a small air unit with splash damage, and it has an enrage mechanic: when no other air troops are nearby, it becomes noticeably more powerful. Surround it with other air units and it reverts to ordinary.
This is the rare troop whose optimal use is written into its mechanic and almost universally ignored, because players instinctively deploy troops in groups.
How to use it
Send it alone, on a flank. One Baby Dragon on each side of a base, well away from the main air group, clears the outside buildings quickly while enraged and creates the corridor described in funnelling.
- Do not fold it into a Dragon stack. Inside the group it loses its bonus and becomes an expensive small Dragon.
- Use it as a funnel opener alongside heroes, then let the main army follow into the gap.
- Watch where it drifts. Like all air units it goes to the nearest building, so a flank that curves back toward the group defeats the purpose.
How to beat it
Standard anti-air, plus a tidy perimeter. Because the Baby Dragon's main job is clearing the outside buildings that would otherwise distract a ground army, a base with few loose perimeter buildings gives it much less to do. Anti-air positioned to cover the flanks, not just the core, punishes the lone-flyer approach directly.

Frequently asked
How does the Baby Dragon's rage work?
It becomes significantly stronger when there are no other air troops near it. That means a Baby Dragon flown alone on a flank is far more effective than one deployed inside a group of Dragons or Balloons, where the bonus is lost.
What is the Baby Dragon used for?
Most often funnelling. Sent alone down each side of a base it clears the outside buildings quickly while enraged, creating the corridor that steers the main army into the core.
