The X-Bow fires quickly at long range and can be set to target ground only or both ground and air, with different range depending on the mode. It covers a large area, which makes its placement unusually consequential.
What it does
Rapid single-target fire over a long distance. Its targeting mode determines whether it hits air as well as ground, and the two modes come with different coverage, so the choice is about which threat you actually face rather than which sounds better.
Placement
- Centre it. Its range means a centrally placed X-Bow covers most of the base; a corner one covers empty ground.
- Match the mode to your weakness. If your base loses to air, the extra air coverage is worth more than the extra range.
- Remember it needs loading. An X-Bow out of ammunition is a decoration, and forgetting to refill is a genuinely common way to lose defences.

Frequently asked
Should my X-Bow target ground or air?
Set it against whatever is actually beating your base, since the two modes trade coverage differently. If air attacks are the problem, the air-capable mode is worth more than the extra ground range.
Do X-Bows need to be reloaded?
Yes, and forgetting is a common cause of lost defences. An unloaded X-Bow does nothing at all, so check it whenever you log in.
