Poison Spell — Clash of Clans

Spells

Dark Elixir

Updated: 18 September 2026 · By the Goblins Farm team

Poison damages and slows enemy troops in its area, ramping up the longer they stay in it. It does nothing to buildings, which makes it a pure answer to the one thing on a base that chases you: the defending Clan Castle.

What it does

Enemy troops inside the circle take increasing damage over time and attack more slowly. It has no effect on buildings at all, so the entire value of the spell is measured against defending troops and heroes.

When to drop it

During the lure, not during the attack.

  1. Pull the Castle out.Standard lure with a cheap troop, as in Clan Castle troops.
  2. Wait for them to clump.Defending troops chase, so they arrive together.
  3. Drop the poison on the clump. The ramping damage does the work while your cheap troops hold them.
  4. Then attack. The base is now passive, and you spent one cheap dark spell instead of half an army.

Why it is worth a slot

Dark spells take little spell housing, so a Poison costs you very little of the loadout. Against a filled war Clan Castle it is the highest-value spell in the game, because the alternative is losing a chunk of your army to troops you could have killed in open ground for almost nothing.

Frequently asked

What is the Poison Spell used for?

Killing defending Clan Castle troops after you have lured them out. It damages and slows enemy troops with damage that ramps the longer they stay in it, and it has no effect on buildings at all.

Should I always bring a Poison Spell to war?

Against a filled defensive Clan Castle it is usually the best value slot in the loadout, because dark spells take little spell housing and the alternative is losing part of your army to troops you could have killed cheaply in open ground.
