Season Challenges and the Gold Pass
Mechanics
Updated: 18 September 2026 · By the Goblins Farm team
Season Challenges are a monthly track of tasks that pay out magic items, resources and cosmetics. The Gold Pass is a paid upgrade to that track which adds rewards and quality-of-life boosts. It is the game's central monetisation, and it is worth understanding clearly rather than defensively.
How the season works
Each month presents a list of challenges, from trivial to substantial. Completing them earns season points, and points unlock tiers on a reward track. The free track pays out meaningfully on its own; the paid track pays out more and adds boosts that apply while the season is active.
Two mechanical points that matter:
- Challenges are not all worth the same. Some are completed incidentally while playing normally; others demand a specific effort. Sort by points per effort, not by order in the list.
- The clock is the constraint. The month is the limit, so pacing matters more than intensity. Most of a season is finished by simply playing normally.
Is the Gold Pass worth buying?
Honest answer: it depends almost entirely on whether you are actively upgrading.
Worth it if you play most days, have builders running constantly, and are in the middle of a Town Hall's worth of expensive upgrades. The cost and time reductions apply to everything you build during the month, and for an active player they compound into a substantial saving. The magic items alone are frequently worth more than the price to someone using them well.
Not worth it if you play occasionally, have builders sitting idle, or are between projects. The boosts only pay out on activity, so buying a pass and then not playing is simply spending money.
This is not a subscription trap in the usual sense, in that nothing is taken away when you stop buying. It is a discount on activity you were already doing. Whether it is a good discount depends on how much activity there is.
Finishing a season efficiently
- Read the list at the start of the month and note which challenges need a specific effort, such as using a particular troop or attacking a particular way.
- Batch the awkward ones. If three challenges want the same troop, do them in one sitting rather than three.
- Do not distort your farming for small challenges. A challenge worth a few points is not worth wrecking a week of loot efficiency.
- Bank the magic items. Season rewards are the main source of books and hammers for most players, and they should go straight into storage until a long timer appears. See magic items.
Frequently asked
Is the Gold Pass worth it in Clash of Clans?
For an active player with builders constantly busy, generally yes, because the cost and time reductions apply to every upgrade during the month and the magic items alone often exceed the price in practical value. For someone playing occasionally with idle builders, no, since the benefits only pay out on activity.
Can I complete Season Challenges without the Gold Pass?
Yes. The free track is available to everyone and pays out real rewards including magic items. The Gold Pass adds to that track rather than gating it.
What should I do with season reward magic items?
Store them rather than spending them immediately. Season rewards are most players' main supply of books and hammers, and their value multiplies when saved for the long upgrades that appear just after a Town Hall jump.
