Clan War Leagues: The Monthly Tournament
Mechanics
Updated: 18 September 2026 · By the Goblins Farm team
Clan War Leagues run once a month as a round-robin tournament between eight clans. The format is different enough from regular war to catch people out, and the rewards are large enough that being caught out is expensive.
One attack changes everything
In regular war you get two attacks, which means you can afford an experiment and then a clean-up. In Clan War Leagues you get one. There is no second chance, no correcting a bad funnel, no fixing a misjudged Castle lure.
Practical consequences:
- Take the attack you are confident in, not the attack you have been meaning to practise. CWL is not the place to try a new army for the first time.
- Scout properly. With one attack, five minutes of scouting is cheap.
- Clean-up is a team decision. Because nobody has a spare attack, whoever is assigned a base has to finish it. Communication matters even more than in regular war.
Promotion, relegation and the roster
Clans are placed in a league tier and play seven wars. Performance across those wars decides whether the clan is promoted, held or relegated for next season, and the tier determines how many medals everyone earns.
Because the roster is a fixed size and leadership chooses it per war, CWL creates a genuine selection problem. Two common approaches:
- Compete: field the strongest available roster every war, prioritise promotion, accept that weaker members sit out some wars.
- Rotate: give everyone participation across the seven wars so all members earn medals, accept a lower finish.
Neither is wrong, but a clan that has not decided which one it is doing will have an argument about it in week two. If you are joining a clan for CWL, ask which it is before signing up.
Medals and what to buy
League medals are earned based on the clan's tier and your own participation, and are spent in a dedicated shop that typically stocks hero-relevant items, resources and boosts.
The general spending advice: buy the things that are otherwise scarce. Resources you can farm. Time you cannot. Items that shorten hero upgrades or advance research are worth more than an equivalent value in gold, because your bottleneck is almost never gold, it is the timers described in upgrade priority.
Frequently asked
How many attacks do you get in Clan War Leagues?
One per war, across seven wars. That is the key difference from regular Clan Wars, where you get two, and it means CWL attacks should be conservative and well scouted rather than experimental.
Do I have to participate in every CWL war?
No. Leadership picks the roster for each of the seven wars and can rotate members between them. Whether your clan rotates everyone through for medals or fields its strongest roster to chase promotion is a clan policy decision worth asking about before you sign up.
What should I spend league medals on?
Items that save time rather than items that save resources. Resources can be farmed; hero and research timers cannot be, so anything that shortens them is worth more than its face value in gold or elixir.
