How to Farm Efficiently in Clash of Clans
Updated: 18 September 2026 · By the Goblins Farm team
Farming is not about finding one great base. It is about running a loop that produces steady loot per hour with minimal effort, and never leaving that loot where someone can take it. This is the loop.
Almost all farming advice reduces to four things: what you demand from a base before attacking, how fast you skip, how quickly you get back into the next attack, and how much loot you leave in storage when you close the game. Get those right and the rest is detail.
One thing has changed since most farming guides were written. Troops cost nothing to train and there is no training queue any more, so an attack has no army cost to earn back. The only things an attack actually spends are the search fee and your time, which changes what a good farming army even means. See farming armies.
Step by step
- Set your loot minimum before you start
Decide the number now, while you are calm, and hold to it. Deciding base by base is how you talk yourself into a mediocre attack at minute twenty. Since armies are free, there is no cost to earn back, so anchor the number on what you are saving for instead: take the upgrade you want, divide by the number of attacks you are willing to spend on it, and make that your floor. Adjust once you see what your trophy range actually offers.
- Build a fast, disposable army
Armies are free, so the test is no longer cost, it is speed and reach: how quickly this army takes the loot that is actually exposed, and how little you care about losing it. Barbarians, Archers and Goblins remain the classic answer, not because they are cheap any more, but because they deploy quickly, spread well and reach perimeter collectors without ceremony. See farming armies.
- Collect everything, including the loot cart
Collectors, mines, drills, and the loot cart from any defence you took. The cart is easy to miss behind a building and it is free money.
- Search while the army trains
Never sit on the search screen with an empty queue. The army should always be cooking while you look.
- Judge each base in three seconds
Loot preview, collector state, Town Hall position. Below your minimum, skip. Do not study bases you are not going to attack.
- Attack the outside, not the core
On most farming targets the loot is in the collectors on the perimeter. That is where a cheap army wants to go anyway. Only commit into the core when the preview genuinely justifies it, per loot mechanics.
- Refill and go again
Armies fill instantly, so nothing stops you starting the next search the moment the attack ends. The constraint on attacks per hour is entirely your own attention, which is exactly why a fixed loot minimum and fast skipping matter so much.
- Spend everything before you log off
Queue upgrades, and dump whatever is left into walls. Walls take unlimited resources instantly with no builder. Log off with empty storages and you are not worth attacking.
Where most sessions go wrong
- No loot minimum. Without a number, you attack out of impatience.
- Overbuilt army. Since armies are free, the cost of bringing a heavy one is not resources, it is the extra seconds per attack and the temptation to commit to bases you should have skipped.
- Studying every base. Three seconds. Skip or attack.
- Logging off rich. This undoes an entire session in one defence.
Where you sit matters too
The league you farm in changes what the loop produces. Lower leagues offer more abandoned bases and weaker opposition but a small league bonus; higher leagues offer a large bonus if you reliably win. Test both for a week each and compare actual loot per hour rather than trusting a rule of thumb. See trophies and leagues.
Frequently asked
What is the best farming army in Clash of Clans?
Whichever army takes the exposed loot fastest, which in practice usually means Barbarians, Archers and Goblins. Note that the old advice about cheap armies is out of date in one important way: troops no longer cost anything to train, so there is no army cost to earn back. What you are optimising now is loot per minute of your own time, not loot minus expenses.
How do I stop losing my loot?
Spend it before you log off. Resources committed to an upgrade cannot be stolen, and walls accept unlimited amounts instantly with no builder and no timer, so they are the perfect place for whatever is left over.
