How to Lure Clan Castle Troops

Updated: 18 September 2026 · By the Goblins Farm team

The defending Clan Castle is the only thing on a base that comes after you. Pulling it out and killing it in open ground costs a fraction of what fighting it inside the base costs, and the routine takes under two minutes.

Attacking into a live Clan Castle is the most common self-inflicted defeat in Clash of Clans. It is also entirely avoidable with a routine that becomes automatic after a dozen attacks.

Step by step

  1. Check whether the Castle is filled

The scouting screen shows this. If it is empty, skip this whole routine and attack.

  2. Find the trigger radius

Drop a single cheap troop near the edge of the base. If nothing happens, drop another slightly closer. One Barbarian at a time. The radius is larger than most players expect.

  3. Wait for the garrison to commit

Once troops emerge, let them start chasing. Do not panic and deploy your army.

  4. Pull them into open ground

Drop another cheap troop well away from the base, in a corner or an empty stretch. Defending troops chase across the whole map, so they will follow.

  5. Kill them there

Away from the defences, surround them with a few cheap troops and drop a poison spell on the clump. Ramping damage plus bodies to hold them is the standard answer, and it is cheap.

  6. Now start your real attack

The base is passive apart from heroes. Deploy the army you actually planned.

Frequently asked

How do I know if a base has Clan Castle troops?

The scouting screen shows whether the Clan Castle is filled. If it is, probe the trigger radius with single cheap troops before committing anything else, since the radius is usually larger than players expect.

What is the best way to kill lured Clan Castle troops?

Pull them well away from the base into open ground, surround them with a few cheap troops to hold them in place, and drop a Poison Spell on the clump. The ramping damage does the work for very little cost.
